Treebune is a circular office pavilion located in the Lakeside development at Tour & Taxis, a major urban regeneration site in northern Brussels. As a central feature of this new mixed-use neighbourhood, the building connects directly with the surrounding park and lakes, blending nature and architecture into a coherent whole. Beyond providing workspaces, the project includes a ground-floor auditorium and aims to be a landmark showcasing advanced practices in circular construction.
The building’s primary structure is made of glued-laminated timber columns and beams, combined with cross-laminated timber (CLT) floors. As a naturally circular material, wood plays a central role in the design. The massive timber sections have been dimensioned not only for structural performance but also for future adaptability: they are easy to dismantle and can be recut into smaller elements for reuse in new applications. The central concrete core, made of prefabricated walls, provides lateral stability while limiting the use of high-impact materials. Together, these systems reflect an integrated strategy to reduce carbon footprint and promote circularity at every scale of the project.
