Context

The extension/renovation of the Herseaux school was part of a research and development project aimed at developing an innovative school concept with a wooden structure.

The objective was to determine an economical construction principle, with a modular size according to needs, in accordance with educational needs by offering a peaceful and pleasant working environment within a warmer wooden structure. All this while guaranteeing acoustic comfort between each class within a low-energy building that respects the environment.

Particularities

The project is split into 3 main parts:
– New R+1 building including classes and administrative premises. Structure principaly made of CLT wood.
– Extension R+1, adjoining the existing building, built entirely in CLT.
– Transformation of the main existing building in order to modify spaces that no longer meet current needs.
