Context

The project consists of the heavy renovation of an industrial site including two old buildings accompanied by several annexes. The buildings have a reinforced concrete frame of the Hennebique system completed by masonry. The oldest of the two buildings dates from the beginning of the 19th century, at the beginning of reinforced concrete. It has a certain historical value that the renovation intends to preserve. The renovation includes two components. He first concerns the very renovation of existing structures (restoration of damaged elements, verification and reinforcement of preserved elements) as well as a series of occasional interventions trying to adapt the existing to its future function (dismantling of old silos and the addition of floors). The second part concerns the creation of new spaces in addition to the existing one. These spaces are deliberately structured in steel in order to clearly separate them from the existing structure. They include a spacious reception hall located at the foot of the building and extending the ground floor to almost the entire site, a new vertical traffic area offering a new link between each of the entities, two levels added above the building located at the front of the site.

Particularities

The first particularity is the renovation of very old concrete with smooth reinforcements and stirrups made of flat steel strips. The second is the use of a light structure for new spaces, composed of a steel frame and light collaborative floors. Finally, the roof of the rear building is made of solid back-glued wood. The original shape allows you to work without support over the entire width of the building according to an Origami principle.
