While timber has been utilized in construction for thousands of years, the industrial revolution favored the ascent of steel and concrete construction, sidelining the use of timber. It wasn’t until the invention of engineered wood products like glued laminated timber (glulam) and other innovations that enabled greater spans and the ability to bear heavier loads, that we witnessed a gradual resurgence of timber in construction.

As a result, research on timber materials must now catch up to overcome the lost ground and meet the challenges posed by increasingly demanding projects. When solutions are not found within existing codes, standards, or ongoing academic research, WOW collaborates with universities to conduct tests and validate hypotheses.

Consequently, WOW is prepared to embark on increasingly ambitious projects, partnering with researchers and delving into new domains.

For instance, one of our ventures involves the development of curved Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) using the lattice hinge method.
